13 January: Dr Tim King – ‘The Oxford Flood Alleviation Scheme’
Dean Court Community Centre, Pinnock’s Way OX2 9DG at 2.30 p.m. on Monday 13 January
A University of the Third Age lecture. Free Admission
Tim King lectured to our U3A in 2018. Now he will aim to provide an unbiased introduction to OFAS covering its history, geography, recent planning applications and alternative ideas. Since 2014 he has kept up to date with the plans as they have changed, discussing with the Environment Agency and the proponents and opponents of OFAS its hydrology, archaeology and biodiversity. Dr King grew up in North Hinksey, bathed at Wolvercote, Tumbling Bay, Long Bridges and Hinksey pools, and came to know their waterways well through his botanical work, first on Port Meadow, and recently at Hinksey Meadow and Kennington. Since the Botley and Osney areas are the first to flood, this talk is relevant to West Oxford!
